Demolition of heritage buoys.

The demolition of the floating heritage buoys on the Nile.

The story of the buoys began a long time ago, as more than 500 buoys were standing on the water in the neighborhoods of Zamalek, Agouza, al-Jalaa and Kit Kat, and it shrank to 360 in the 1960s, bringing the number to 32 buoys today.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation decided to remove the buoys, considering that they threaten the cultural landscape of the Nile, and that their presence is contrary, which was denied by the buoy residents, stressing that they obtained the necessary permits for them.
Tomorrow night, the government set July 4 as the last date for its presence on the Nile, and gave its residents until that date to remove it.
The buoys were built in a unique style of architecture on one or two floors, overlooking the calm waves of the Nile River, but inside it witnessed major political and artistic events.
It was inhabited by the people of art, literature and politics, led by Naguib Mahfouz, the "Nobel Prize winner" and Farid al-Atrash, Badia'a Masabni, Asmahan, and Tahia Karioka.
